If you like off-road adventures but you don’t have the budget for a traditional off-road-focused SUV, the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid might be for you. With a standard all-wheel drive and 8.7-inch of ground clearance, the Crosstrek is ready to explore its way up and down obstacles that will prevent other small crossover SUVs.
The Crosstrek Hybrid is also useful even if you rarely leave the urban street. It offers a generous amount of space and a comfortable and smooth ride on rough pavement. Maximum cargo space is a bit less compared to what you get from a more common SUV, but it’s still adequate for most people.
This hybrid comes with a plug-in hybrid version of the Crosstrek four-cylinder engine. It returns an EPA-estimated all-electric driving range of 17 miles. Sure it’s not that much, but plugging in and recharging should make a big difference in reducing your fuel costs. After the battery is depleted, the Crosstrek hybrid delivers an overall fuel economy of around 35 mpg, which is 5 mpg better than the regular model.
Another the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Plug-In advantage is its acceleration. In performance testing, it’s faster to zip off the line, which is good because the regular Crosstrek is a bit sluggish. But on the negative side, the Hybrid costs a lot more when new, although tax incentives help reduce the costs. Cargo space is also reduced since space is used for batteries. But overall, the Crosstrek Hybrid is recommended for buyers who are looking for an adventure-ready SUV that also has a good fuel economy.
